The NFA Application Process at Anchored Armory
Navigating the NFA (National Firearms Act) application process can seem complex, but here at Anchored Armory, we make it as straightforward and seamless as possible. Our knowledgeable staff is here to guide you through each step, ensuring you remain fully compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations. We can handle everything in house from fingerprints to photos so when you walk out there’s nothing for you to do but wait for ATF approval! We can even help setup a gun trust for you. Best of all, once you've gone through the initial setup your information stays in house so any future submissions can be completed in a fraction of the time. If you're looking to simplify your NFA applications, we've got the system for you! Here’s an overview of our process:
1. Consultation & Product Selection
First, you’ll meet with one of our NFA specialists to discuss your desired NFA-regulated item. Whether it’s a suppressor, short-barreled rifle (SBR), or another NFA firearm, we’ll help you select the best option based on your preferences and needs. We provide assistance with:
- Suppressors
- ShortBarreled Rifles (SBRs)
2. Completing the Necessary Paperwork
Once you’ve selected your NFA item, we will guide you through the required paperwork. This includes preparing the appropriate ATF forms:
- ATF Form 4 (for the transfer of an NFA item)
- ATF Form 1 (for creating or manufacturing an NFA item, such as building an SBR)
We will ensure all forms are completed correctly and provide guidance on filling out the details needed for the application process.
3. Fingerprints & Background Check
A vital part of the NFA process is the required fingerprinting. We're able to digitally capture your fingerprints on-site and convert those to an ATF approved EFT file. These fingerprints will be submitted as part of your background check. With traditional paper & ink sets you'll spend time having those done and then waste more time mailing those sets off for approval. Our system ensures all of your information is submitted electronically at the same time providing a quicker turn around time!
4. Passport Photo & Certification
As part of the application process, you’ll need to provide a passport-style photo for the ATF records. We take those photos on site and crop to meet the ATF standard. Additionally, required submissions to the local chief law enforcement officer (CLEO), we handle for you.
5. Submission to the ATF
Once all your forms, fingerprints, and documents are in order, we will submit your application to the ATF for approval. We’ll handle the entire process for you, ensuring everything is in compliance with federal regulations.
6. Awaiting Approval
The approval process has been faster than years past. Currently we are seeing turn around times between 1-2 weeks but it's not uncommon to see approvals in 1-3 days depending on the type of NFA item and the volume of applications being processed! During this time, we’ll monitor the status of your application and keep you updated on any progress.
7. Notification of Approval
Once your application is approved, the ATF will send us (and you) the approved forms along with your tax stamp (the official approval). You will be notified as soon as we receive your approved paperwork, and you can come in to pick up your NFA item.
8. Picking Up Your NFA Item
With your approved application and tax stamp in hand, you can now take possession of your NFA item. Schedule a time to come by the shop and pickup your item!
With our NFA services you can trust that your transaction and registration is handled with the utmost attention to detail. If you have any questions or need assistance at any step our team is always here to help. Contact us today to begin your NFA application or visit us for more information.
